The 1998.5-2002 Dodge Ram introduced the 24-valve 5.9L Cummins, marking a significant upgrade from its 12-valve predecessor. With the addition of the Bosch VP44 electronic fuel injection system, this engine offered improved power, emissions control, and drivability. Producing up to 245 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque, the 24-valve Cummins became a favorite for heavy-duty towing and aftermarket performance modifications. Despite some reliability concerns with the VP44 pump, this generation solidified the Cummins' reputation for power and durability in the diesel truck market.
